Did you know? Most political campaign expenses are NOT paid for by the central party. On average, it costs between $100,000 and $120,000 to run an MPP campaign in Waterloo Region. The amount that can be spent by each party in each riding is set and capped by law. Spending limits level the playing field - one candidate may have access to far more funds than another, but they still can't spend more than the maximum allowed by law. Elections Ontario monitors this very closely. Once the election is over, the Kitchener South - Hespeler PC Riding Association and our campaign team must each provide detailed accounting documents to Elections Ontario to demonstrate that total spending was within the permissible amount.
What do we use your donations for? A lot of things! Some of the big expenses are lawn signs, printed flyers and other distribution literature, costs associated with hosting fundraisers, renting office space during the writ period, and paying for advertising on radio and TV to get Jess's name and the PC Party platform out there. We also hire and pay a few people to fill certain specialized positions, such as a campaign manager and an accountant to track expenses. Finally, we use your donations to show our love to our hard-working volunteers by keeping them fueled with snacks and coffee!
All contributions are income tax deductible. You will be provided with a tax receipt and can receive a tax credit of up to 75% of your total donation amount. For example - if you donate $50 you will receive a tax credit of approximately $37.50, dropping the final cost to you down to $12.50.
